Titanium Grades 2 and 7
Titanium Grade 2 (Commercially Pure Titanium)
Titanium Grade 2 is one of the most commonly used forms of commercially pure titanium.
Chemical Composition:
Primarily consists of high-purity titanium (around 99.2%), with minor amounts of elements such as iron, oxygen, and nitrogen.
Key Features:
- Outstanding corrosion resistance, particularly in marine and chemical environments
- Lighter than steel, reducing overall weight
- Moderate tensile strength compared to other pure titanium grades
- Good workability and weldability
Typical Applications:
- Corrosion-resistant coatings or linings for steel equipment
- Fabrication of tanks, pipes, and vessels for corrosive fluids
- Combined with stainless steel to improve corrosion resistance and reduce weight
- Manufacturing parts requiring moderate strength with high corrosion resistance
Titanium Grade 7
Grade 7 is closely related to Grade 2 but includes a small addition of palladium (typically 0.12–0.25%).
Key Features:
- Superior corrosion resistance compared to Grade 2, especially in acidic and chlorinated environments
- Exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
- Maintains excellent workability and weldability
Typical Applications:
- Ideal for highly corrosive environments, including chemical, petrochemical, and marine industries
- Used as protective linings or coatings for equipment handling acids and harsh chemicals
- Extends the lifespan and durability of steel equipment in aggressive conditions
- Preferred over Grade 2 where maximum corrosion resistance is required
